Week 2, Day 2 (alternately titled: Running Makes Me Sweat Like a Boy)

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

I've never really been that sweaty of a person. Heck, I don't even wear deodorant every day! Even when it's very very hot outside it doesn't phase me much unless I'm going to be outside & in the sun for a long time and then I'll put some on. This is true even when I exercise, I don't normally "sweat". It's generally more of that proverbial "glow" and even when I do "sweat" it's several beads here and there rather than actual pouring down my face sweat .

That all changed Monday when I started week two of my running plan. This phase calls for 90 seconds of jogging/running followed by 60 seconds of walking, repeat..repeat...repeat...etc.

I headed to the gym all pumped up to start this week because last week went fabulously and I was excited about pushing myself a little further. Plus my bangs were looking really cute with my hair pulled back in a pony tail so I even looked cute which doesn't normally happen when I roll out to the gym....I'm mostly just happy to find matching athletic socks and that's just to keep from embarrassing Kevin.

So we get to the gym and I hop onto the treadmill like a woman with a purpose and start my workout. Doo Dee Doo.... life is good....I'm jogging and I'm walking and I'm jogging and I'm walking and then all of a sudden my bangs are soggy and my lower back is all wet and there's a trickle of sweat in places there shouldn't be.

The sweat. Oh. My. Goodness. The sweat.

It was ridiculous! At that point I was so overheated that I gave up on the jogging and just pushed myself to walk the rest of the 15 minutes I had left.

I was hoping it was just a fluke and pumped myself up to hit it again tonight. But this time I didn't go quite as fast so quickly and paced myself better. It helped but not as much as I'd hoped. I made it to 23 minutes before the sweat won and I couldn't take it anymore and just walked.

I'm thinking about getting one of those mini fan/water bottle combos or maybe one of those awesome sweat headband things from the 80's!

Overall, though, I'm quite happy with the program and feel my legs getting stronger and my endurance increasing. I just need to figure out how to tame my inner sweaty beasty and I think I'll really enjoy this running thing.

...or you may have to get use to this "sweat thing", ha! Didn't you sweat when we use to do Tae-Bo? I remember dripping grossly from it. Hmmm. You are so blessed to not have to wear deoderant often! Anyway, I always wear one of those sports headbands - not from the 80s, but the ones that hold your hair/bangs back on your head. My bangs are to long to leave down and too short to pull back, so that really helps!

I'm so glad that you are sticking with the program and feeling stronger already - keep at it!

Oh, and thanks for making me laugh :0)
